Dying of thin branches on avocado tree from which the fruit is hanging. Start turning black from the tip of the branch and keep dying back. Please identify the problem or disease and what can be done to save the young fruit and tree. The tree is quite big and a few years old already.
Root rot is one possibility, since it would cause dying branches as well as the browning leaf tips seen in the photo. This happens because the disease damages the roots and then the tree can't take in enough water:

Also check for holes in the branches which could be left by insects called borers. These can damage the tree directly and could introduce fungi.

The diseases and pests that are common differ by region, so the best thing to do is to contact your local extension service for diagnosis and treatment options.
The root system from our avocado tree is starting to invade our cement. How can we stop the root system from growing any further without removing the tree?
Unfortunately there is no way to stop tree roots.
It is best to have the tree removed before further damage is done to your property.

I have an avocado plant grown from seed, at least 12 ins tall, and the leaves keep turning brown. It's in moist soil and gets the sun all day. I have no leaves on it now. Can you give me an answer?
To much water, to often can lead to root rot quite easily with an Avocado Plant.
The small roots become overwhelmed and will die off.
Soil should be a light, loamy mix and the pot should have a good drainage hole.
You should only need to water every 2 to 3 weeks.
Never let the soil stay soggy.
Also when you water you should water until the water runs through the drainage hole, then allow any excess water to drain away. Watering to often in small amounts never allow the roots to fully take up water.
Which insectside can be used to spray avocado that is affected by black insect (spider like insect)?

I have grown this avocado plant from seed. Its leaves have recently started browning around the edges. Can anyone tell me why this is?
Check the soil content. It is best to grow an Avocado in a clay pot with a potting mixture of soil and sand. Drainage is key to plant health.
Your plant may be showing signs of root rot.

We moved from FL to Va in Oct. Had plants on porch. It got cold before we got them in. All the leaves are brown. Can they be saved? Also, I cut two small branches growing off the trunk. Should I have done that?
If you have lost the leaves, you can check the stems to see if they are still alive.
If you see signs of life, they may recover.
Here is how to test your plants.

Try not to stress to much, I like to remember that a plant loss makes for an opportunity!
I have a 40+ year old avocado tree in my backyard located in a corner bordering a block wall separating my property from my neighbor's. In the photos the section of root is lifting and separating the block wall. Can I cut the root section going under the wall & repair the wall without killing my tree? If not, what can I do? My tree puts out a heck of a crop every year. Thank you
Unfortunately the answer is no, you cannot remove roots and solve the issue.
Avocado Trees roots are considered invasive and can greatly damage a homes foundation.
A minimum of 10 feet from any structure is recommended, although I would suggest a larger amount with some trees reaching 40 to 60 feet.
Though the decision is hard, you will only have further damage to your block wall unless you remove the tree.
