Other than keeping weeds pulled and cutting them back in the fall, they really don't need any special care, though you can give them additional winter protection by adding a layer of mulch over top.
I am wondering if this is going to damage my plants. Some will be 3 yrs this spring and some will be 2 yrs.
No, this should not hurt the plants as they are normally pruned back in fall anyway. You may want to add a bit of mulch of winter protection, if necessary.
Have had my asparagus bed for about 5 years. Only pick for 6 weeks. Now I have a lot of asparagus tops and we are going into winter. Can I cut them off at the ground now or should I wait until spring. They are turning a light shade of brown.

When do you cut back asparagus in the fall?
Here is an article to help you with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/asparagus/cutting-asparagus-foliage-back-in-autumn.htm
I just planted for the first time my asparagus seedlings in the prepared garden and now I'm getting weed seedlings coming through. I'm really worried about destroying the seedlings with my hoe. Is there an easier way to keep it weed free until my seedling start to develop crowns (because it took four weeks for the seedlings to break through of their pod)? Any ideas would be much appreciated for this first timer.
Rusty, The only thing I can think of is to very gently hand-pull the small weeds out until the asparagus is large enough to mulch. Good luck.
My in laws have a verrrrry old asparagus patch. Over the years a lot of the plants have died off and what is left has been taken over by weeds. I'm trying to talk my husband in to digging them up and putting them in a raised bed (so his mother can set on the side and pick them), but I always get the answer "you can't dig up asparagus. " I know they can be moved thanks to your posting on transplanting asparagus, but I have some questions.
First, after transplanting do I have to wait a year before cutting?
Second, is it true you should not cut asparagus after July (I live in Missouri next to the Bourbeuse river)?
Is there anything I need to know before I get this started?
Tamie

Living in hot Texas, can you harvest in spring, then cut down in summer, and harvest in fall? Bed is 3 years old and produced nicely in spring.
asparagus is best harvested in spring, then left to mature. This article explains: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/asparagus/growing-asparagus.htm
