Can you include a photo? Do you mean that you spiked the tree, as in you inserted a metal rod INTO it? Depending on the metal used, it can certainly kill a tree. In fact, copper has been used to kill trees for years by doing just this.
I will need some more information and a photo to be able to help more.
ches off? The tree is usually quite healthy but some years some of the outer leaves wilt and die off. It seems to bear heavily every second year and have much less fruit every other year. Any other hints on keeping it healthy would be appreciated. I usually don't prune it dramatically, just try to keep it compact and open in the centre.
This is an incurable disease known as fruit tree cankers. This can be managed to prolong the life of the tree, but will eventually kill the tree. It can, however, almost lead a perfectly normal life with proper care. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/disease/weeping-amber-in-trees.htm
Why did the top half of the tree all of the leaves curled up and turned brown while the bottom part is just fine. Can I save this tree or should I just get rid of it?
This appears to be a fungal issue. I believe this to be treatable, though. It is recommended to put down wettable sulfur around the area, and spray with neem oil on the tree as high as you can reach. It is advised to put dolomitic lime around, as well, to control pH so that the fungus cannot thrive as well. r? Can Loquate Indian apricot tree growing in temp zone 6-7 ? how can I protect in winter? Why my Apricot little tree turn brown suddenly with this season while we are still in summer time not even fall time or cold winter? Can Loquate Indian apricot tree growing in temp zone 6-7 ? how can I protect in winter?
They are not quite hardy in your area. If it gets down any lower than 10 degrees, the whole thing will die. It will be best to grow these in container, so that you can bring it inside during the winter.
As for turning brown... This sounds like a fungal infection. This usually happens from being too wet for too long. Next time that you water, you can replace 1/4 of that with peroxide, just once, and that will clear things up.
This article will give you more information on the care of these: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/loquat/growing-loquat-fruit.htm
