Can acorn squash vines be cut/pruned? Over growing small garden area. If so, how to prune?
Yes, you can cut back the vines as needed with sharp, sanitized pruning shears. Be aware that this will reduce the size or number of squash produced because there will be fewer leaves for photosynthesis.
Is it an acorn squash or a pumpkin?
Here are articles about growing both Acorn Squash and Pumpkins.

Does acorn squash start out white? I have squash plants coming up from seeds discarded last year and I am not sure about the ones that are white now.
There are white varieties of acorn squash available. If your squash were not white last year, it was possible that you had a hybrid variety that lost some of its hybrid characteristics when it went to seed. It will probably still be good to eat but will simply look different from its parent.
Have you ever seen this? This acorn squash vine is 12-15 feet long. The last few feet of the vine are flat and thick, like the ribbon cord found on some electronics, and it is producing lots and lots of female flowers. Only female flowers, no males.
I believe your plant is suffering from Aster's Yellows.
This is a disease that is carried unto plants by Leaf Hopper insects.
Your plant is showing a witches broom on the terminal growth of your vine.
I would recommend removal of the infected plant from your garden to prevent the spread.

Is it normal for the inside to be pale yellow, almost white looking? The outside was dark green and hard.
The color of the flesh might depend on the variety you have- some varieties do have almost white interiors. It sounds like the squash you had was ripe based on the rind, so probably the color is normal:

I planted green acorn squash seeds (the seeds I saved from last years harvest). Plants are doing beautifully. But they are producing whitish/yellowish acorn squash. Why? Never saw any other color for them before. Does the different color mean a difference in taste as well? Thanks for your help.
Saved seeds from a hybrid may not grow true to seed. The original plant was most likely a cross between something that you are now seeing grow in your garden.
The Squash may taste great, or not so great! A garden experiment!
No specific question. I dug growths out of my compost pile and planted them in a raised bed. Today I started harvest mid sized acorn squash, a treat and a surprise for me. . I read Nikki Tilley's piece on squash. Thanks.
Congratulations! It's always great to find surprise treats in your garden! :)
