Sweet potato vines

Mine are overgrown, just want to split them….without killing them. How do I do that

You can divide the sweet potato vine in spring when it has began to produce shoots.
Just dig up the tubers with a trowel. Clean off the tubers with water and lay out on a stack of papers to dry while you work with them. Use a clean knife to divide the tubers making sure each section has at least one eye.
Plant the divided tubers in well worked soil, 2 inches deep.
