Sunflowers Eaten

I planted my sunflower seeds indoors, let the small plants and a bed of seeds sit on the garden table in the warm sun, and then brought them in. First, something actually ate the seeds out of the small seedlings that had a bit still stuck, and some just ate the whole thing and left the shells. I saved about 4 of them and took them indoors till they were about 12 inches tall and again put them out just for the warm sun, and now small green worms seem to be eating them. What are these things, and what can I do to protect them?
