Q.Sunflowers

Anonymous added on June 10, 2015 | Answered

I hope you can help me. I bought some sunflowers at the garden center. They had beautiful heads and before I could get them in the ground, the flower petals wilted and fell off. I kept them watered and they were outside. I don’t know what is wrong with them or how to help them survive. I also had planted a crop of sunflowers that did not take. Well except for one. It’s beautiful and just bloomed, but it as well is starting to lose its petals. Can you help me? Thank you.

If the sunflowers you purchase were annuals, the roots are quite shallow. If they dried out before planting that would explain the loss.
Water the surviving plant well to get it established.
