Suitable, Hardy Plant For Dappled Sun Area Ground Cover

This area has very little sun, and is beside a huge strelitzia-type tree…I don’t think the soil is very nutritious for plants.

You could add some compost to the top of the soil before planting to increase the fertility. I couldn't locate your zone but it sounds like it is a warm climate. Here are some ideas for groundcovers:
