Successfully Growing Oleanders

Question

I have a rose colored oleander in my garden that has been there over four years, but will not grow or blossom. What is the reason why it remains the same when it returns in the spring but never once bloomed? My second question is about a double flowering yellow oleander I purchased at Wal Mart that had instructions for another plant attached but the name Oleander was on the bar code of the container and the shrub is identical to all other Oleanders. I have never seen this one in my area of South West Mississippi. Is this shrub a patio plant, or may it be grown in the garden in Zone 8? Finally, how do I treat the problem of the leaves on the end of the branch from wilting and turning black?

I would recommend getting your soil tested, as you could be lacking something in the soil which is preventing healthy growth from occurring. Also, phosphorus rich fertilizer, or bone meal, can help encourage blooming.

As for the issue with blackening of the leaves, it is possible that it has a fungus. Treat the plant with a fungicide. Neem oil is a good choice as it is also an effective pesticide and safe to use.
