Stubby Carrots?

w We have a raised bed planter and can’t seem to get them to ‘elongate’. I’ve tried loosening the soil with perlite which seemed to help but not entirely. Help and thanks.

Compacted soils can be a big reason for stumpy carrot production, but I suspect that there may be a little too much nitrogen in your soils! This will ALWAYS cause short carrots. Fortunately, this can be offset by adding phosphorus and potassium to your soil.

If you test your soils and nitrogen is in check, or low, then you may look to growing them in deeper soils. They may find the area too confined.
