Strawberry Plants

My strawberry plants are in a raised flowerbed, healthly, producing well and in sun with sandy soil. The pillbugs are eating them or they lay in the dirt and rot just short of transplanting. Is there anything I can put down to encourage them to ripen “whole”?

They may need more nutrients, as sandy soil does not contain all they need for healthy growth.
