Q.Strawberry Patch

Zone 4 | lilbitt added on August 29, 2012 | Answered

I have a large 8′ x 14′ patch of strawberries. This year they produced many fruits but mostly just the size of raisins or small grapes. And with this drought that we suffered, they look all burned. I have found some green plants still in the patch. What else can I do to help them produce the larger fruits next season?

Due to the extreme heat and drought, poor pollination could have contributed to this. Strawberries also respond well to fertilization twice a year. Fertilize in early spring before flowering and right after harvest. Use a 10-10-10 fertilizer broadcast over the plants and then water in.
