storage of strawberry plants for spring planting

I have 100+ strawberry plants. Please advise best method to over winter for next spring planting. How to make them the same stage they are in when you buy bare root plants in garden supply, usually dried up in peat or some type of medium? Or step by step how to make dormant, keep them in flower boxes in unheated garage? Plants are now in flower boxes with 2″ compost in bottom to keep water near roots until I know how to properly store them until spring planting.
