Q.sticky sap from indoor ficus tree

Zone Covington, TN 38019 | Anonymous added on June 21, 2018 | Answered

I have a 6′ ficus tree that is about 15 years old. It is an integral part of my den decor but has become a problem because of a sticky sap that covers the floor and is very hard to clean up. When I take it outdoors, the problem seems to cease, but returns as soon as I bring it back into the house. I can’t actually “see” any bugs or scales on the leaves, although the leaves themselves are sticky, and the sap attracts ants. Can you please tell me how to prevent this and keep it from recurring? Thank you.

I would treat it with neem oil or a mixture of 1 part dawn dish soap, 1 part mouthwash to 4 parts water. This article should help
