Starting cherry trees from pits

I read an article on this and it says to allow the pits to dry and then place in the freezer for ten weeks. My question is, this is early July, ten weeks would put me at early September here in Indiana. It is just starting to cool off and head into winter at that time, Can the pits be left in the freezer for and extended time to plant in the Spring?

They should be fine until spring as long as they are properly dried and stored. This article may help
