What can I do to keep starlings from landing in my flower box and snipping off my flowers?

There has been some research done that shows that using fishing line around plants helps to keep birds off them. You don't need much, just a bit. The thought is that it makes birds nervous as they think they might get tangled in it. You can also try placing shiny, moving things in the box, like an old CD on a string or a pinwheel. Birds don't like these kinds of things.
