Q.Star magnolia problems

Zone 5a 6 | wendave89 added on May 23, 2015 | Answered

Our star magnolia has only produced flowers on part of the tree. There are small buds but they are not producing. Any ideas on what to do?

Did you have a cold snap or late frost this spring?
My Star Magnolia did nearly the same thing this spring, it was just beginning to flower when our temperatures dipped for nearly a week.
The buds did not open to flowers or were very distorted.
If the leaves formed or are forming on the tree evenly with no signs of limb damage I think your tree will be just fine.
There is always next year!
I would add some good compost to the tree base in late winter as suggested in the article below.
