Standard lavender plant

I have a standard lavender plant – height 3-4 feet. It was bought last spring and given to me as a present. It is in a 10-inch diameter pot. It was quite a nice globe-shape when I got it but it is quite straggly looking. I am very keen not to lose this plant. What should I do, please?

A potted Lavender will need plenty of sunlight and nice warm temperatures.
Regular pruning of the Lavender will help keep the plant tidy and attractive.
Never prune into the woody stems.
In spring cut the top 1/3 of each stem.
In summer you can trim selectively to keep the shape you desire.
You can cut the flowers off of the plant by just below the first sets of leaves.
