Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comsee wire hanging baskets with staghorn ferns that have no soil or moss lining……instead have the brown/green leaves forming what seems would be the moss liner within the wire basket. Do you still start with a moss liner for your wire basket? Does this change happen over time?

There should still be some type of media for it to grow on so that it can harvest nutrients that get stuck to it. It is likely that there is a liner of some type but it could be hidden by the “cap” that forms at the base of the plant.
