Q.Squirrels eating potted hibiscus plant

Anonymous added on August 9, 2015 | Answered

I have a BEAUTIFUL hibiscus plant with large bright yellow flowers. Squirrels just started eating it! They literally climb into the pot and eat the leaves from the stalk. I live in western VA in the Shenandoah Valley. I have a cousin in Richmond, VA who has the same problem with squirrels eating her hibiscus plant. They do not disturb any other plant in my yard or in pots. I do not leave food out to feed the squirrels either. Any suggestions for me? I tried some mixture of hot pepper and caynenne powder and sprayed the plant but that did not help.
