Q.Squirrels eating off the bark

Anonymous added on November 13, 2014 | Answered

I have a tree in my yard (I am not sure what kind it is) that the squirrels have eaten off the bark around the bottom of its trunk. The area is at the bottom of the tree and is about three inches and makes a complete circle all around the trunk. The leaves fell off earlier than the other trees in my yard. Will this tree die? Is there anything I can do to save it?

If you can clean up the area where the bark has been eaten and possibly keep the squirrels away, the tree should heal itself without suffering any ill effects. Here is an article or two that you may find helpful: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/repairing-tree-bark-damage.htm
