Squash getting soft

We have some crooked neck squash planted. They are producing squash but while still small they are getting soft on the ends like they are rotten. Is this from too much moisture? We have cut back some of the leaves because they are huge and thought they needed some light. We are in South Carolina.

This is blossom end rot and caused from a lack in calcium. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/squash/squash-blossom-end-rot-causes-and-treatment.htm [1]
