Can I transplant them when they begin to grow in spring?

I would wait until after blooming if you have that option. All plants sulk after transplantation. In addition, most bulbs need dividing every 3-5 years; this extra teasing apart of roots inevitably results in some damage. Does this mean you will lose the flower? I don’t know. If the green shoots are just poking through the soil and you won’t be dividing them, then give it a go if it must be done now. I have learned that the location of the shoots does not mean the bulb is directly underneath. With a shovel or garden fork, cut in to the soil further away from the clump than you’d think necessary; get a few inches under the bulbs to get the roots and bring them up in one clump. If the soil is dry, water a day ahead. Good luck.
