Splitting of Pumpkin

We have an extremely large pumpkin. It has a split of about 6 inches on one side. The color is a blotchy green and yellow. Do we cut this now; we are concerned that if we leave it outside it will rot because of the split.

I would harvest. You are correct in being concerned about rot. Occasionally, the fruit will callous over and show no ill effect.
