Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI live in southeast Pennsylvania and have a damaged Japanese Maple. The tree is about 36 inches tall and its crown is about 48 inches wide. The trunk is about 2-1/2 inches in diameter. The trunk becomes two (branches) at the top, which I’ll call the crotch. The heavy snow has split the crotch and the trunk about 9 inches downward (about 1/4 inch to over 9 inches). Would you have any advice on repairing this (specimen)?

I would secure the two side of the split back together and hope that they heal. It does not always work, but otherwise, the tree sounds as though it would be a lost cause, so it is worth trying this.
