spider web looking thing on all beginning blooms

I have learned so much about gardenia care through the last several days. Love the aroma! My lovely wife carried gardenias at our wedding and the smell. . . fantastic! My gardenia is thriving, new shoots, new leaves and am pruning. Stands 4 feet tall but every new bud that appears to come out, a weird spider web appears on it. I believe it may be aphids but am not sure. The plant is indoors. Please advise.

This is likely from spider mites, which not only leave behind webbing as evidence of their presence but also honeydew (sticky substance). Treating the plant with neem oil will help. Here is more information:
