spider mites on hibiscus

A robin built her nest in May in my newly acquired hibiscus tree (from Costco) which looked healthy when purchased. The robin sat in the nest for about 2 weeks. The eggs did not survive (predators?) but the nest now remains in the plant. The plant is now loaded with red spider mites and leaves are yellowing and dropping. Could the mites be from the robin or nest materials? Could a systemic treatment be used? If not, what is the treatment? Should the nest be removed? Thank you.

Unfortunately, spider mites are just something that we gardeners occasionally have to battle with. However, they are relatviely easy to get rid of. I personally like neem oil, which is safe for use and as a bonus is also a great fungicide.
