Specimen Plant

Our new house has a Yucca plant in the front yard. We live on the corner on a hill, so this area is seen by everybody. I do not like the Yucca. What large brightly colored flowers could I plant there instead? The soil is sandy and it is sunny.

I’m sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your yucca. These can be interesting focal points in the garden. However, if removal is important, please be careful, as they are extremely sharp. Since you have sandy soil, you may want to consider amending it with compost to increase its viability and nutrient health. Also, there are numerous plants that will thrive in full sun, such as rock garden plants–which also do well in sandy conditions.
