Sowing Columbines (Aquilegia)

When to sow Columbine (Aquilegia)seeds that I have collected two months ago?
Should they be sown now (during the summer)in order to get established before the winter comes – or should I sow them before winter time so that they experience the freezing period?

I would so them now, broadcast and they will germinate very quickly. If they “disappear” over winter do not worry, they are very easy to grow and will come back. A further tip; once they have flowered cut the whole plant back to ground level to tidy it up. The leaves will still start to grow slowly and you will have done no damage at all.
