Q.Southern Red Oak

Zone 23456 | Mattycz added on October 22, 2016 | Answered

I’m looking for a shade tree to provide some respite from the sun for our front porch. Can you tell me how much yard space (radius) a Southern Red Oak needs and how far from our house we should plant? We have a small yard so I want to make sure a Southern Red Oak will fit before purchasing. Thank you!

Southern Red Oak is a relatively large and fast-growing tree. It has a canopy spread of 60-70 feet and a height of about 70-80 feet at maturity. It should be planted at least 20 feet from the house.
