Sooty Mold on Gardenia

I have sooty mold on my gardenia. I have read what it is and that is easy to fix, but I am looking for a home remedy to fix it. I have heard about a formula with dish soap, like Joy or Dawn, mixed with water that will get it off and kill it. But I am not sure of the ratio or the amount I would need to mix up.
