Q.Society Garlic – too little or too much water?

Zone 85295 | Jady added on July 26, 2018 | Answered

Planted 3 of these in late April (low desert of Arizona) & they looked great for a while, but now closet to death. It’s hot here…118 yesterday. Are they needing more or less water? Do they need to be fertilized? Hoping to save them!!!

Thank you.

What is under those rocks? Are they planted in quality soil, or just topsoil? Those rocks may be causing it to get too hot around the base of the plants.

Generally, you will want to feel down into the soil about 2 inches. If it is dry passed this point, then it is time to water. If it is still moist at all, then you will want to hold. off. This could be a bit difficult with the rocks on top, but it will still be your best indication of when to water.
