Snow Damage to magnolia trees

We just had 3 ft of snow in one week and as it started falling off the roofs, it pummeled 2 magnolia trees and broke the top out of one and just about every branch off the other. Is it possible that they will recover with some pruning or should I consider them total losses? When the top came out of the larger one, it left a large split – it was not a clean break.

Without seeing the damage it is difficult to say if this is a death sentence for your trees.

Generally you can clean up the breaks and wounds and allow the tree to heal on it’s own. If every branch is effected, you may not be able to save the tree.

An Arborist may be needed to help you access the situation.
