Q.Smoke Bush

Zone Sechelt, B.C (near Vancouver) | licia@telus.net added on July 22, 2017 | Answered

Our Smoke Bush has produced a huge number of flowers this year. It did so last year as well and the flowers, and hence seeds, spread like crazy. Is it safe to cut the flowers back to reduce the shedding mess and if so, when? Thanks in advance.

This bush does reseed freely. Removing the flowers may be removing the prettiest bark of your plant, though you can cut them back before they turn to seed.
