Sick plant

I have a red top cactus. It was doing great through summer. When I brought it inside, it became pale and the little balls on the side have become brown. I put it in a south facing window so it could get sun all day. Do you know what is wrong and can I save it? I love it and it was so beautiful. Please help!

Plants that are brought indoors for winter often suffer from low light levels, overwatering, pest problems, or a combination. Check the cactus and soil for any small insects.

Your cactus will need less water than before because it won’t use as much indoors. If overwatering is the problem, let the plant dry out for a while- you may need to remove it from its pot to dry out if it is very wet.

If low light seems to be the problem, the cactus will likely recover in the spring. But providing it with as much light as possible, with a sunny window and/or a grow light, will help.
