Should one trim any part of a Magnolia Grandiflora

That lovely Magnolia, the one with the flowers that can be as big as one’s hand and lemon scented, lemon scented flowers that is. Is there an annual cutting back/pruning regime one should follow?

Magnolia is not a specie that requires much pruning, other than removing dead or damaged branches. While you can prune young trees ( that you can reach without a ladder) lightly, pruning older trees is not advisable.
