Q.Should I Patch A Hole In My Tree

Zone Acworth GA | Mikey21 added on May 8, 2020 | Answered

There is a hole in a huge beautiful tree near my driveway. The way it is angled rain water enters the hole and contributes to additional rotting. Bugs enter as well. Should I fill or cover it? I sent three pics – a closeup of the hole and more distant pics so you can see the multiple trunks and shape and leaves.

The tree doesn't appear to be in distress. Holes should only be patched if they are causing the tree any problems. Otherwise, patching can often lead to more problems than it solves.
