Should a Fig Tree Drop Its Leaves While Fruit Is Still Ripening?

The tree only has leaves at the very end of a few branches. The branches don’t seem to be dying. The leaves began to fall off about two months ago.

It can happen, if the fruit developed late and the tree started to go into its fall dormancy. But based on the time you say, that would be rather early for the tree to start to go into dormancy.

This would suggest that the tree has a fungus. There are several it could be. But, all of them can be treated with a general fungicide. Treat the tree with a fungicide and that should take care of the fungus.
