Shotholpe Disease In Plum Tress

We bought a plum tree about 3 years ago and had it professionally planted. Over the summer it has lost all its leaves and the nursery are telling us that it may be suffering from ‘shothole’ disease. They are recommending that we wait until the Spring and if no leaves appear to remove the tree and replant another one of a different variety. The tree has been well watered in the drier months. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Unfortunately, it won't be possible to make a diagnosis from that picture. Detailed photos of the leaves will be requires, as well as any other photos of any damage that may be significant.

This could be shothole disease. If so, it was likely brought about by just a little too much water. The disease thrives in soils that do not have a chance to dry out between waterings.
