shell bean pods appear moldy

Many of my pole beans grew too big to eat green, so I left them on the plant to become shell beans. I notice that now many of the dried pods are moldy looking. Are the beans inside, that appear to be fine, safe to eat or to save for later use?

They are safe to cook, but may be unsightly. This is a natural process, and is no cause for concern. In the future, if you do suspect a soil infection, it is good to put wettable sulfur into the soil with dolomitic lime to improve the soil zone, and kill off any infections.
