Q.Sago Palm

Anonymous added on March 25, 2014 | Answered

Can a Sago Palm be “split”? Do they get root bound and require a larger pot? Ours has gotten so big it’s hard to take in and out of the house each year. Can it be split in two? Also, pretty sure we can’t leave it outside all winter…too cold here. Any info will help. Thanks.

Yes, you can repot it. Go up another couple sizes when repotting. Keep the base at the same level in the new pot as it was in the old pot. Generally, sagos are not split but rather divided by way of pups. Look at your sago and note any growths along the base or trunk. These can be removed to start new plants or tossed.
