Sago Palm – Cone Shaped Portion in Middle of Plant

We have a sago palm and (not realizing we shouldn’t) trimmed it completely back. Luckily it’s ok, but now that the leaves have come back, there was a yellow cone-shaped object in the middle of the plant after we cut back. That has since fallen to the side of the plant and we really thought it would eventually fall off but has not. What should we do? Weren’t sure if we should cut it off or let it fall off by itself.

Mature male sago plants produce this golden cone, shaped like a giant pine cone. You can leave it or cut it off.
