Q.Madame Galen that won’t bloom
I have had this Madame Galen for two years now and it hasn’t ever bloomed. Is there something I should be doing more for it? We just built a new pergola a month ago to give it more room, and I fed it with miracle grow back in the early spring. I just don’t know why it’s not blooming. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Katy
From my research you are not alone in this cultivator being slow to grow and flower.
It is reported that it will take 3 or more years to flower. Many gardeners report poor flowering even on older specimens.
This vine definitely needs the heat to flourish and likely will need to climb to the top of the trellis structure in order to perform well.
Be careful to not use fertilizer with high Nitrogen levels. This will cause more green and inhibit flowering.
By adding Phosphorous, such as Bone Meal it will encourage flowering.
