Q.Sea Grape Hedge How Far Apart To Plant Sea Grapes
Most sites say sea grape plants grow to 20 to 30′ wide & to form a hedge, plant them 3′ apart. Why? Id like to do this right, but every other plant the spacing is the same as the width.

Three feet does seem close, considering as a tree, they do grow wide, 20 to 30 feet. I suspect the close spacing is suggested because, when grown as a shrub, they are usually pruned to 6 to 8 feet tall and wide. Plus, if you space them 10 feet apart, it will be years before you see a hedge. It also depends on how wide of a hedge you are planning, which will determine how many plants and the spacing. Three feet is probably too close, but you could go with 5 or 6 feet apart so it is good and dense. Here is more:
