Q.Schefflera problems

AJMunro added on February 15, 2018 | Answered

Hello,

My Schefflera is growing quite rapidly these days, but lost all of its leaves on the main trunk a couple of years ago. Any advice to make it look better and encourage a more bushy growth? I’m worried the trunk won’t even be able to hold the weight soon.

Thanks,

Alan

The loss of older, lower leaves could be due to inadequate light or watering lapses. Unfortunately, there is no way to get leaves lower down as this plant does not normally branch.

The only remedy is to prune off the top section to a height that you prefer. New growth will then emerge on the stem starting just below where you make the pruning cut.

Going forward, provide as much indoor light as possible and water when the top half-inch of soil feels dry.
