Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have a fig tree that has been extremely healthy for 2 years. It was transplanted to a neighbor’s garden last year and continued to grow and thrive. This year was a very cold and harsh winter and it looks as though the tree may have winter burn. By this time last year it had buds and leaves. This year there are little buds that look frostbitten and no leaves. Can this tree be saved? It will break my heart if not…help!

Figs are pretty tough and hardy; it may have been damaged, but still be able to regrow. Wait until you’re sure there won’t be another freeze, then cut back the branches to healthy tissue, and give the tree awhile to regrow. In the future, you might want to consider more winter protection for this plant.
