Save my apricot tree

Zone San Jose, California 95118 | zhuyuxiong added on April 27, 2018 | Answered

My apricot tree was doing OK, but recently its leaves are drooping and it seems worse everyday. Several things happened recently: It's bearing fruits; it started like one or two months ago. Because of , I've been watering it more frequently. Twice a week on average. I know, that may be too much... Also, I used fresh chicken manure as fertilizer. I know, I shouldn't have used fresh manure... This tree lives in San Jose, California. Please help me, I don't want to lose the tree!

Those things would, definitely, match the symptoms that you are seeing. You will want to compost manure very well before using. This will cause the plant to burn a little. Add dolomitic lime to raise the pH some, and counteract some of the manure.

Now, as for the leaf curl. This is a sign that it is being well overwatered. They will curl up to help it to release moisture faster. You should only have to water with the first 2 inches of soil are almost completely dry. This will help keep it from being overwatered, and keep it from getting a soil infection.
