sap from tree

I peeled the bark from the lower half of a tree and now it’s leaking sap (foam white). I cannot get rid of the bees, wasps and flies from it. What can I do?

A tree needs its bark to live. If you have removed it all the way around the tree, the tree will die. The sap is essentially the tree bleeding from its wounds and the pests will be attracted to it.

I would dry off the sap as much as possible and spray the tree with Bug-Be-Gone to discourage the insects. I would wait to see if the tree heals itself by producing new bark. If the tree produces more sap, I would rub the sap evenly onto the surface and hope the sap will protect the tree from damage and actually promote the development of new bark.
