Sago Pruning and Pups

I have a sago about 5 yrs old. Here in San Antonio, TX we are coming out of a long drought and hard winter with a very wet spring. The sagos were are doing well. The palm in question has what appears to be pups (maybe 2) sprouting new leaves (at least 6). The new growth is growing up through the older leaves. Should I prune back the older growth to allow the pups/new growth some room?
