Q.sago palm female cone

Anonymous added on August 26, 2015 | Answered

I have a female cone growing in my sago palm. It has been there for over two months and is full of seeds. Can I remove this without hurting the palm tree? What are your suggestions?

For a female Sago, we recommend leaving the flower intact. The flower grows very close to the plant and you risk damaging the plant by removing it and it will not hurt the plant to leave it. You may see slowed growth while it is flowering. This is normal and growth will resume once the flower fades.
